Jaw Plates of Jaw Crushers: An Overview

Jaw plates are the main wear-resistant parts of jaw crushers, including swing jaw plates and fixed jaw plates. They come in various models and sizes to match different jaw crusher specifications. Manufactured from new-type high manganese steel, ultra-high manganese steel, super-strength high manganese steel, and other materials, jaw plates are suitable for all types of jaw crushers.

A jaw crusher consists of a working chamber formed by a swing jaw and a fixed jaw. Both jaws withstand enormous crushing force and frictional wear from materials, making them prone to damage. To protect the jaws, wear-resistant liner plates—also known as crushing plates—are usually installed on their surfaces. The surface of crushing plates is typically toothed, with tooth peak angles ranging from 90° to 120°. The angle size depends on the nature and particle size of the crushed materials: a larger angle is used for crushing large-sized materials, while a smaller angle is suitable for small-sized materials. The tooth pitch is determined by the desired product granularity, usually approximately equal to the width of the discharge opening. The ratio of tooth height to tooth pitch can be 1/2 to 1/3.

During operation, the upper and lower parts of the crushing plate wear at different rates, with the lower part wearing faster than the upper part. As crushing plates directly contact materials and bear significant crushing force and friction during jaw crusher operation, their service life is directly related to the crusher’s working efficiency and production costs. Therefore, extending the service life of jaw crusher plates is particularly important. This can be achieved through improvements in design, material selection, assembly, and usage processes.

The jaw plate is the most consumed part in crusher production, so strict quality control during material selection is crucial. In fact, the quality of a crusher is often evaluated by the service life of its jaw plates, as the crusher shell is generally not easily damaged.
