Jaw Plate Calibration Procedure

Applicable equipment: Jaw crusher (calibration for moving/fixed jaw tooth plate replacement, offset or uneven wear)

Pre-work Safety Rules (Mandatory)

Shut down and cut off power, implement LOTO (Lock Out Tag Out). Rotate flywheel manually to confirm complete stop. Clear debris from crushing chamber. Wear full PPE.

1. Preparation

  1. Prepare tools: torque wrench, feeler gauge, straight edge, crowbar, chain hoist, anti-seize compound, wedge blocks.
  2. Clean mounting surface: remove ore residues and rust from moving jaw and frame seating surface. Ensure flat surface without depressions or foreign objects.
  3. Inspect tooth plates: check for cracks and deformation. Confirm correct installation direction: tooth peak aligns with tooth valley. Peak-to-peak installation is forbidden.

2. Tooth Plate Positioning & Preliminary Calibration

  1. Lift tooth plate into position. Ensure full contact between back side and base, no rocking or one-side suspension. Joints of segmented tooth plates are smooth without offset steps.
  2. Fit wedge blocks and clamping blocks. Hand-tighten bolts. Tighten diagonally in stages. Do not fully tighten one side at once.
  3. Use straight edge to calibrate verticality and centering of tooth plate to avoid inclination.

3. Parallelism & Gap Fine Calibration (Key Step)

  1. Rotate flywheel manually. Moving jaw reciprocates smoothly without jamming or scraping noise.
  2. Measure chamber gap at upper, middle and lower positions. Parallelism tolerance ≤ 2 mm. Relevel by loosening wedge blocks if out of tolerance.
  3. Adjust closed side setting (CSS) per equipment specification. Recheck dimension with feeler gauge and lock adjustment mechanism.
  4. Re-inspect: no gaps under tooth plate back face; plate properly positioned without offset.

4. Staged Bolt Tightening & Recheck

  1. Apply anti-seize compound to threads. Tighten diagonally in three stages: 30% torque → 70% torque → 100% rated torque.
  2. Re-measure parallelism and CSS after tightening, as tightening force may shift tooth plate and cause out-of-tolerance.
  3. Verify wedge blocks and clamping blocks are firmly seated. Tooth plate no shake or looseness.

5. No-load Commissioning & Acceptance

  1. Remove all tools and debris inside chamber. Refit safety guard.
  2. Jog machine to check for impact or abnormal noise. Run continuously with no load for 10–30 minutes.
  3. Inspect vibration and bearing temperature. Recheck bolts and wedge blocks for looseness.

6. Load Trial Run & Final Inspection

  1. Feed material at low load. Check stable product size, no one-sided feeding and abnormal wear.
  2. Stop machine for full inspection of tooth plate position, bolt torque and chamber gap. Complete maintenance record.

Prohibited Operations & Troubleshooting

Prohibitions

  1. Do not strike tooth plate body with heavy hammer. High manganese steel may crack.
  2. Do not use shims to compensate suspended tooth plate. Repair base seating surface instead.
  3. Never inspect abnormal noise or jamming while machine is loaded.

Common Fault Remedy

  1. Rapid one-sided wear: inclined tooth plate, parallelism out of tolerance → re-level and tighten diagonally.
  2. Tooth plate jumping / frequent bolt loosening: poor back contact, insufficient wedge compression → re-seat and re-tighten.
  3. Impact noise inside chamber: misplaced tooth plate or wrong orientation → reposition plate.

Acceptance Criteria

  1. Tooth plate securely mounted, no shift or rocking; parallelism within tolerance.
  2. No abnormal noise or heavy vibration during no-load and loaded operation.
  3. Stable product size, no abnormal one-sided wear.
